Over the weekend, the Trump Administration officially dropped the nomination of William Perry Pendley as director of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).This news comes just weeks after launching our efforts to REJECT Pendley’s nomination. We want to thank everyone who signed petitions, donated to ads, and put pressure on leadership to do the right thing. Your actions helped remove a direct threat to wild horses and burros across the country and is further proof that together, we can bring about great change.
As acting BLM director, Pendley notoriously called America’s beloved wild horses an “existential threat to the public lands,” despite the fact they are not present on 88 percent of the lands his agency manages. Thankfully, Pendley will no longer be able to use wild horses as the scapegoats to prop up his friends in Big Ag and Big Oil.
AWHC applauds the decision by the Trump Administration to withdraw the Pendley nomination and put the lives of our beautiful wild horses above profit:
We are extremely grateful to all the wild horse defenders who took action by signing our petition and donating to digital advocacy ads. Your voices amplified the chorus of opposition to Pendley’s nomination. Victories like this are incredibly important for forward momentum on wild horse protections, and all signs are pointing to more wins to come. In order to build on this success, we need to keep the pressure up.
will you donate today to power our ongoing advocacy efforts?
Another 911 call this morning. Would I give this little girl a chance?? When she was brought in off the range, the choices were a sharp knife or give
her a chance with me.
We have seen worse legs that healed, legs that looked better but did not heal, but never have I seen such a healthy little girl with such a fighting attitude. I had to say yes.
Yesterday I was looking at 8 babies, heading out to pick up 3 more and wondering how on earth I could say yes to all of them. Once again it was on faith.
Faith that someone will skip a coffee and send that money. I know Covid has changed our world and funds are tight, but we funds are nowhere near where we need to be.
Vetting the 13 that are in front of me is going to be hideously expensive.
We have several babies with injuries, most of them I can treat, but at least one of them will need surgery and of course this little one will need some veterinary intervention and I will treat her under my vet.
MY LITTLE MIRACLE GIRL needs a miracle, and I have every intention of fighting with her as long as she wants. LOOK at how beautiful she is. That big toned butt, her shiny coat. This little girl wants to thrive to survive.
As always, I am on the front lines and it is one emergency after another.
It is exhausting and my silly shoulder is not working so that adds an extra special element of fun to the whole rescue. I wonder sometimes if that is why God sends me the worst cases, because I can relate??? Anyway, as usual the success of the rescue is in your hands. THANK YOU for doing so much to save so many lives. Please say a prayer for “My Little Miracle Girl”. She needs so many.
Reba is struggling so we are changing up her feed and running more blood work.
I have also had another sort of rescue put in front of me. There is a starving Mama kitty and 4? out of 5 babies left? So I am also working on trapping them.
Apparently the local dogs have been killing the cats left and right and “taking care of the issue”. So prayers that I can trap them and we can get them fixed and homed.
THANK YOU EVERYONE who is part of this ongoing journey to save God’s creatures. There are simply no words to express my appreciation. Y’all Rock!

Another 911, 2 urgent calls for orphans today. One from the shipper – and another call from one of the catchers. I know there are 4 at the catchers and not sure how many are at the shippers. It’s up to y’all if we can keep saving these precious lives. I simply cannot do it without your help. You save so many, and I am praying we can keep saving more. I will do the work if y’all keep helping with the finances.
(I am sure by the time I get there the numbers will have grown as usual. But I am guessing 8 or more?)
We are tapped out from all the vet bills, bail, medications, transport etc. etc., not to mention feeding our special needs kids.
These babies have nowhere to go, and as you can see, our beautiful REBA, (shown below) is going to need vet care, blood work, and can only have mash for the rest of her life. She needs help now.
She did ask me to tell you – THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE, NOW PLEASE HELP ME FEEL BETTER……..
Please help save more lives. There are so many times I think I just can’t stand the heartbreak anymore, but how do I limp away? Each and every single life matters. In all reality though, you decide who we save. Let’s keep saving every one we can.

I wanted to take a quick moment and say how grateful I am for ALL OF YOUR DONATIONS and the LOVE AND SUPPORT!
My heart is broken once again, and *only YOU and the faith I have in God has gotten me this far.*
Lindsy, the beautiful 30 year old + paint pony, was always a possible “humane euthanasia”. When Doc recommended giving her a chance and the medicine which could help her, I did every possible thing anyone could do. She had more love in the last few weeks than a lot of horses ever get in a lifetime. It was expensive to get her medicine and get her lil hoofers done, but thanks TO ALL OF YOU, she had EVERY chance and oh so much love. She DID NOT ship to slaughter. So although it hurt so much to love her enough to end her pain, that is what had to be done.
Losing Samantha, the little pony with the horrible injuries to her face, and eye, just about did me in. After spending lots of time vetting and caring for her, she was at the vet to have her eye repaired again. Before her surgery even began, she passed under anesthesia. With all the damage done to her face and skull, there was a really good chance she had either a brain bleed or even a heart issue. When Doc called me it was beyond devastating. She was just a baby.
We have to remember once again, she had more love and care in her short time with us than she had ever had. I really like to think that all the mischief she caused was for fun, and not from pain, but all I know is that she is at peace and running free in heaven.
Rescue is beyond hard, but every single horse you saved AVOIDED the slaughter truck and knew love and tenderness before they left this earth.
Again, THANK YOU for all your donations and for helping so many of these precious souls.
Hugs from a devastated heart,
P

Wow – the calls just won’t stop. I’ve been home all of 3 days, and this injured and starving mare was today’s 911. We have to save her. She is super sweet and can hardly walk and is obviously starving. She wouldn’t even make the trip to slaughter and would be trampled in the truck. That can’t happen.
Shipper called and the babies below are in the trailer. Mom’s and families have been loaded and are on their way to slaughter. We have to take these babies – they have no where else to go.
Sadly, the beautiful Granny passed away last night due to the head injuries inflicted on her at the same time they destroyed her lip.Our hearts are broken but there is not even a moment to grieve, or even breathe. At least she is out of pain and was surrounded by love for her last few days.
I can only imagine what the numbers will be by the time I actually get there to pick them up. For now, Mama Mel will be taking care of the babies and I need to call tonight and let them know if we can take Reba, (the starving/injured mare).
Our vet bills were just a few dollars shy of $5,000 for this last rescue, (before I even got home). Sweet Sally, the donkey, needs more x-rays. Samantha, (the little mini) needs her eye either repaired or removed. The stallions need to be gelded and the kids with Cushings need more meds. The list goes on and on.
I know the world has turned upside down, but my life didn’t really change. I keep getting calls and as long as y’all keep helping and want to save these lives, I will keep on fighting. This is beyond exhausting, but if you look at that worried face on Reba, well it is almost as if she knows something bad is coming. Let’s make sure only good comes to her for the rest of her life.
THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU, who are making a difference whether it is from sharing, caring and praying, or donating. Together we can keep saving them. Off to feed and give meds.
Someone take a nap for me please. LOL

If there are ever funds left over from the cost of the rescue itself, the monies are used to feed, vet, care for and provide shelter and proper fencing for the animals once they are saved.
It’s been a week of soaring highs, and crushing lows.
Last Thursday, we secured a huge legislative win for wild horses in the House of Representatives with the passing of a wild horse protection amendment requiring the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to implement humane and safe fertility control vaccine, PZP.
At the very same time, our hearts were breaking as we received daily updates from our field representative at a BLM roundup in the Swasey Herd Management Area (HMA) in Utah. He had the awful responsibility of observing and documenting the traumatic helicopter stampede, capture and removal of more than 600 of Utah’s federally-protected wild horses. There were many injuries, and two deaths.
I can honestly say that the abuses our observer witnessed at Swasey were some of the worst we’ve seen since AWHC began documenting roundups 10 years ago. And it’s far from over – more roundups are imminent in both Nevada and at Utah’s famed Sulphur HMA.
From July 15-July 24, BLM-hired helicopter contractors, Sampson Livestock, stampeded and captured approximately 603 Swasey wild horses, with the ultimate goal of reducing the 800-horse population to just 60 horses.
What we’ve witnessed in Utah is truly shocking:
A 5-year old mare crashing into a pen panel, breaking her neck and being dragged off in chains.
Terrified new foals being run-down by helicopters, falling behind and then being roped and dragged in.
Multiple stressed horses, exhausted from the exertion of a miles long helicopter stampede, one even collapsing before she could reach the trap.
Just-captured horses crashing into the panels of a dangerously small trap pen.
The BLM continued its daily assaults on the Swasey horses despite sweltering desert temperatures that exceeded 95 degrees — violating their own animal welfare guidelines — on more than one occasion.
I know some of this email is difficult and upsetting to read. It was difficult to write. But it’s worse to imagine a future where the BLM is allowed to forge ahead with its deadly, costly, unscientific approach to the management of wild horses on our public lands. The next roundups in Nevada and Utah are just around the corner and it’s critical that we forge full steam ahead with our work on Capitol Hill to reign in the BLM’s inhumane roundups. Our work continues, with your help, and we could not be more grateful.
IT WON’T STOP! MORE BABIES ripped away from their families n their Mama’s. Sometimes this feels so overwhelming. Trying desperately to get back home. I have the Haulers lined up and WHAM – another phone call.
Catcher called – AT LEAST 5 BABIES, and one who “really needs a drink”. I can only imagine what shape he is in. It’s over 100 degrees today.
We have huge vet bills from these last two groups and spent a fortune for professional trims and to pay the family. We need help to get these babies safe.
I literally cried when I got the call. I’m sorry but I am worn out, emotionally and physically. It can be devastatingly heartbreaking as well as rewarding. I have been living in a hot horse trailer for about 10 days. I also have to be able to pay my wonderful folks at the ranch while I am gone. I am going to say yes, and will save these babies, but need your help to make it happen.
Thank you in advance for making this possible.
All the horses have been adopted from this last rescue. Sally, the long haired Donkey will be staying with me at Chilly Pepper. Her hoofers were horrible and she has major health issues from her lack of care.
Thank you for helping with that unique rescue.
However, these babies need help today!! I need to get them safely out if this heat.
So appreciate ALL you do!

If there are ever funds left over from the cost of the rescue itself, the monies are used to feed, vet, care for and provide shelter and proper fencing for the animals once they are saved.
I don’t even know how to write this post. A happy family, a horse trainer by trade, a gorgeous stallion raised from birth – and in a split second – tragedy struck.
That horrifying day, their beloved stallion turned without warning, charging and stomping his owner in the face, nearly to death. If his wife hadn’t interfered, it would have been over. His injuries were horrific and devastating. After fighting through and conquering life threatening injuries and unbelievable pain, his world would once again collapse.
With the craziness today, no financial help was available. On top of that, their home was sold out from under them with no warning from an unethical landlord. With no warning, only days to move, no income and still fighting ongoing, life threatening issues, they had no choice. THEY HAD TO FIND SAFE HOMES FOR THEIR HORSES!
This is what rescue is supposed to be about. These amazing people did EVERYTHING right. Yet they were dealt every heartache imaginable. It is obvious that when the choice was there, the horses and animals were cared for first. Now they simply need our help.
Chilly Pepper was asked to step up and take on the horses until we can find homes. Some of these horses are well trained, valuable, papered horses and the only money these folks have to survive on is what we can pay for their beloved “kids”.
I saw them today. We sat and cried and talked about why things happen and having faith that somewhere out there is something better. Trusting God is the only way to survive something so hard. At this point he cannot even step into the pen. The slightest bump could end everything, his injuries are that severe.
Let’s help at least keep his horses safe. I will be picking them up and getting them vetted before bringing them to NV. We are praying folks will step up to purchase them as there are some wonderful horses available. THE FAMILY WILL BE PAID FOR THEIR HORSES! (We also need to cover vetting, transport, care and feed etc. until they are all re-homed.)
Imagine the horse you raised from a baby “snapping” in a single second. On top of that, your income is gone, your heart is broken, and in the struggle to take care of your family and do what is best for your horses, your heart once again is breaking into a million pieces. These horses simply have no where to go.
So let’s show this family that there is still love out there in spite of all the ugliness.
It’s time to do everything we can to show love and compassion and keep his horses safe.
The tears are pouring once again as I write this. I live with chronic pain, but there is nothing like the pain of not even being able to go and love on your horse. He is struggling so hard to do the best thing for not only his horses, but his family. Please help us help him!

MEET “TONTO” He is beat to snot, old and exhausted. He also has a horrible injury to his leg and needs immediate help. What’s one more horse they say??? Ha ha. But he is heartbreaking and needs our help.
I was in my nursery and said out loud “no more big horses”. This covid thing is wreaking havoc with the rescue world. God laughed and said “Here’s a Mule” when He sent me Evie. Now He put Tonto right in front of me. (Shows what I know.) I am willing to take on his care if y’all are willing to save him.
TONTO is calling 911.It is such a rare and beautiful opportunity to keep one of these “GRANDPAS” off the truck.
It has been so crazy and a bit stressful on these past few rescues, all jammed into one. But I have to be Tonto’s voice. Please help us save him. I know this never ends. (Trust me, I am exhausted and need a vacation from the heartbreak and stress.)
However, I have to try and save as many of the ones that are put in front of me as we (our Chilly Pepper Family) safely and responsibly can.
It is so frustrating to have to continually be trying to raise funds, but what is even more frustrating are the calls that NEVER STOP, and the lives that are continually thrown away. So we do what we have to do. THANK YOU for stepping up and running this race to save them with me!
GREAT NEWS! Y’all saved all the babies, the pony, Granny the Donkey and Evie. Yesterday, in spite of the 100 degree heat, our beautiful Evie got her pedicure, and Samantha got her eye stitched up.
(At least you can see where your $ go. Y’all are awesome and so very much appreciated.)
Upper right corner is the new and improved Evie.

The abject cruelty of the BLM’s roundup program was on full display this past weekend at a roundup in the Swasey HMA in Utah when a wild mare, chased by a helicopter, crashed into the panels of a trap pen, broke her neck and was dragged away with chains. BLM claimed she died instantly, but our observer and his photographs tell a different story.
The heartless treatment of our federally-protected mustangs by the agency charged with protecting them is nothing new.But now we have the opportunity to begin to address it.
U.S Reps. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz, Dina Titus, D-Nev., Joe Neguse, D-Colo., Jan Schakowski D-Ill., and Brian Fitzpatrick R-Penn., are sponsoring an amendment that would dedicate funding to protect America’s cherished wild horses and burros. It would require the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to spend at least $11 million to implement humane PZP fertility control as an alternative to cruel roundup and removal of wild horses from public lands.
It’s an effort to rein in the BLM’s cruel, costly and ineffective wild horse roundup and incarceration program and require the agency to implement humane birth control to humanely manage wild horse and burro populations in the wild.
Here is where we need your help. The Rules Committee will be deciding later today whether to allow the amendment to come to the floor for a vote later this week.
This is huge! Please drop what you are doing right now to help wild horses and burros. One call and one click WILL make a difference!
1. Call the Capitol Switchboard today to be directed to your Representative: 202) 225-3121. You can say:
“My name is [NAME] calling from [CITY] and I would like to request that Rep. [NAME] co-sponsor Amendment 6 to HB 7608. This amendment would dedicate funding to protect wild horses and burros, requiring the Bureau of Land Management to spend funds on humane fertility control. I also request that you contact the Rules Committee to ask them to advance the amendment to the floor by ruling it in order. Thank you.”
I am willing to fight for these kids, but they NEED YOU TO HAVE A CHANCE! IT TAKES OUR WHOLE CHILLY PEPPER FAMILY!
Granny DOES NOT need to be loaded onto a slaughter truck. She is in horrific shape, but too cute in spite of it all.
We were notified of the catcher’s running and have at least 2 babies, as well as the pony with the face that is now distorted. Her eyes are no longer level, her face seems to be twisted and we know she has a head and eye injury.
I am on the way to get Evie all fixed up, (had to wait for my truck to be ready), and in the middle of the trip received the 911 call. (Throwing out a quick plea for help from the LQ.)
WILL YOU HELP US SAVE ALL OF THEM?Obviously Granny needs alot of help, and hopefully she has no debilitating issues that will keep her from a happy life.
YOU decide if we can save them all! Thank you for always being there and saving so many lives. Let’s give these beautiful souls the love and care they deserve! They are counting on us.

This week marks the halfway point of summer, the third week of roundup season, and the end of foaling season with many baby foals taking their first steps on wild ranges across the Western United States.
We’re working around the clock to make sure those first steps are free, but our wild horses still have a long road ahead.
We’re like to share some small, but meaningful, actions you can take this weekend that will go a long way in helping us keep up the fight for our beloved wild horses and burros:
TAKE ACTION: Tell the BLM to Humanely Manage Utah’s Wild Horses!
Deadline July 27. TAKE ACTION now:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a 10-year roundup plan for the mustangs that live within the Confusion Herd Management Area (HMA).
The BLM estimates that just 551 wild horses live on the roughly 235,000 acres of public lands approximately 30 miles north from Garrison, Utah. However, the BLM wants to reduce the population to just 70 horses.
That’s one horse for every 3,350 acres! At the same time, the BLM authorizes approximately 10,400 cattle and sheep to graze in four grazing allotments within the HMA.
Under the Proposed Action, the BLM plans to:
Reduce the Confusion wild horse population by 87% through the permanent removal of 481 wild horses
Apply untested, inhumane surgical sterilization procedures on mares released back to the HMA; including the brutal ovariectomy via colpotomy method
Geld a portion of the stallions making them non-reproducing and destroying their natural behaviors
A quick update about last week’s House Appropriations Committee hearing:
We were disappointed when the Committee voted to move the Interior spending bill on to the full House for a vote without the amendment to rein in BLM wild horse roundups, or prohibit the cruel surgical sterilization of wild horses.
The news is not all bad, however: The bill passed out of Committee continues the ban on slaughtering wild horses and burros under the jurisdiction of the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, and rejects the Administration’s request for a budget increase of $13.5 million on top of the $102 million appropriated last year. We will have many opportunities over the coming months — including when the Senate weighs in on the agency’s plan for wild horse management — to continue to push for meaningful reform of the cruel and costly BLM Wild Horse and Burro Roundup Program as Congress continues the appropriations process this year.
We will keep you updated on opportunities to encourage Congress to hold the BLM’s feet to the fire, but in the interim it’s important to celebrate the efforts of our champions in Congress who have been leading the charge to curb the roundups and institute more humane management methods.
It’s important to let our elected officials who are standing up for America’s wild horses and burros know how much we appreciate their continued efforts!

— The whole team at the American Wild Horse Campaign
For 15 long days now, America’s iconic wild horses have been under attack.
The scenes we’ve witnessed already are truly heartbreaking: America’s wild horses chased down by helicopters for miles in the scorching summer heat. Frantic mares separated from their terrified foals, roughly captured, and held for several hours without any food.
Photos taken by our field rep on July 4. He nicknamed the brave mare “Lady Liberty” and her terrified foal, “Baby Sam,” after witnessing the heartbreaking scene of their separation and capture at the Range Creek roundup.
AS WE WRITE, our field representative is onsite at the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) roundup at the Swasey Herd Management Area in Utah, which began today. It’s the second assault on Utah’s wild horses this month. Right now, BLM helicopters are stampeding wild horses, including tiny foals, driving them into traps and forever robbing these majestic mustangs of their freedom.
Our wild horses and burros are in for a long, cruel summer as the BLM rounds up and removes MORE THAN 5,000 of them from public lands in Utah, Colorado and Nevada by the end of September. And the agency is already laying the groundwork to extend these roundups into the fall and next year. We must take action to protect them, Erica.
Let’s take a quick look at the situation on the ground so far this roundup season:
TODAY, BLM helicopters descended on the Swasey Herd Management area in Utah. The goal? To round up and permanently remove 550 horses and reduce the population to just 100 horses on public lands where over 12,000 sheep graze each year.
On July 1, the BLM began the roundup and removal of wild horses from the Range Creek HMA. The first several days of the operation were closed to public viewing as the trap site was located on private lands and the property owner refused permission, but our field representative was there to document and observe the roundup scenes as soon as permitted. You can READ the day-by-day account, and see the heartbreaking scenes for yourself, here.
In August, the BLM plans to continue the assault on Utah’s wild horses with the roundup and removal of 500 wild horses from the Sulphur HMA.
Also in August, the BLM will turn its sights to Nevada, where the agency intends to roundup and remove an astounding 1,600 wild horses and 200 burros from the Shawave HMA located 50 miles northeast of Reno.
Then in September, the BLM will wrap up its summer roundup season with a massive roundup in Nevada’s Diamond Complex, targeting nearly 1,200 wild horses for permanent removal from their homes on our public lands.
This outdated approach to population management is not only unscientific, it’s cruel and inhumane. We are working hard to change this — in Congress, in the courts and in the field by showing that humane management works. We need YOU more than ever to keep showing up, speaking up, and supporting our work. Together, we will do everything in our power to protect America’s wild horses.
Thank you for your support, Erica. Our wild horses — and their continued freedom — depends on all of us.
THANK YOU for helping us keep her off the slaughter truck.
However, EVIE’s needs are just beginning. She is now safe at our friend Mama Mel’s, and as soon as my truck is ready I will be heading up there. Right now she is slowly decompressing and this is where we start her recovery.
Y’all covered her rescue, but we are expecting some big vet bills. We need to do x-rays, and I am extremely worried about all the twisting in her legs. Getting pix of all her feet, sedating her for x-rays & trimming and hiring a qualified trimmer will add up. (She is unhandled as far as I know. That is the information I was given.) Then we still have to get bloodwork, a Coggins & health certificate and bring this beautiful lady home!!
There are less expensive ways to get her x-rays and get her trimmed. However, there is no way I am having her roped and thrown on the ground and hogtied. Sedation is more expensive by far, but no one will be putting this beautiful girl through any type of rodeo. She has obviously been through heck and from here forward she will know only love.
We have no guarantees of her viability, but for now she is loved and will be treated with the utmost care and kindness.
THANK YOU to everyone who has stepped up to help get her to this point, but sadly she still needs more help.
Again, we are on the front line and have to save them now. You don’t get to choose “how many”. It’s ALL OR NOTHING!! Thank you for helping us continue saving lives.

A TRULY HEARTBREAKING 911! Meet EVELYN. (Evie for short). SHE NEEDS US NOW!!
Look at those horrific feet. Can you even imagine how much pain she is in?
Can you see her forced into the slaughter trailer? Being jostled and shoved around while the other terrified horses tripped & stepped on her feet? It would be a miracle if she even survived the trip to the slaughter house without being knocked down or having her ankle broken.
She needs your help RIGHT NOW! We HAVE to save her and keep her out of the slaughter pipeline. The clock is ticking and I need to commit. WILL YOU HELP ME SAVE HER?
Sadly, Evelyn’s outcome may not be what we want. She will require x-rays to see if her coffin bones have twisted. I am praying she will be ok. She certainly deserves every chance. Worst case scenario we are rescuing her for humane euthanasia. However, we have seen LOTS OF MIRACLES! Either way, she cannot get on that slaughter trailer.
So please, let’s save this beautiful lady. She obviously has not been shown any kind of love or care. The abuse stops today. Thrown away like garbage, let’s give her a miracle.
PLEASE HELP NOW!!

If there are ever funds left over from the cost of the rescue itself, the monies are used to feed, vet, care for and provide shelter and proper fencing for the animals once they are saved.
We wanted give you a quick update about this morning’s hearing in Congress.
Unfortunately, the House Appropriations Committee voted to move the Interior spending bill on to the full House for a vote without the amendment to rein in BLM wild horse roundups. We’re disappointed that the Committee turned its back on requests made by senior appropriator Marcy Captor (D-OH) and House Natural Resource Committee Chair Raúl Grijlava to require the BLM to implement humane fertility control and to ban brutal surgical sterilization procedures on wild horses and burros.
The news is not all bad, however: The bill passed out of Committee does continue the ban on slaughtering wild horses and burros under the jurisdiction of the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, and it rejected the Administration’s request for a budget increase of $13.5 million on top of the $102 million appropriated last year.
The report accompanying the bill indicates that the Committee believes that the BLM’s plan for wild horse management lacks sufficient detail and suggests that members will be working with the Senate on satisfactory language. This presents another opportunity for AWHC and our supporters to hold Congress’ feet to the fire regarding the need to force the BLM to reform its unsustainable and inhumane wild horse and burro roundup program.
The upshot is: Stay ready — they’ll be more opportunities soon to make our voices heard!

Tomorrow, the House Appropriations Committee will vote on the FY 2021 Interior Appropriations bill. This bill will fund the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM’s) Wild Horse and Burro Program and determine whether limits are placed on the agency’s mass roundup plan for America’s mustangs.
You are in a unique position to influence this legislation because your Representative and/or Senator is on the Appropriations Committee that will vote on this bill. We have one day — TODAY — to push Congress to add critical language to the bill before it’s too late.
If passed in its current form, the bill would allocate $102.6 million for the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Program. This is a 27% increase over 2019 budget levels.
Several key members of Congress have requested that language be included in this bill to require the BLM to implement PZP fertility control to humanely manage wild horses and burros in the wild and to prohibit surgical sterilization, including the brutal ovariectomy via colpotomy procedure.
Currently, this language is not in the bill, but it could be added via an amendment to the House bill during the full committee hearing Friday. Since the Senate bill is still pending, there’s still time to convince Senators to incorporate this language in its version of the Interior spending bill.
There’s a lot at stake — if Congress doesn’t put the brakes on the BLM, the agency will round up as many as 90,000 wild horses and burros from public lands over the next five years — that’s every horse and burro living free today and more!
THANK YOU – Y’all saved another 9 orphans, plus “Wire cut” and Sidny”. (Yes she spells it that way.)
I have now have 18 sitting in front of me, waiting to be vetted and taken home . (12 babies, 1 old pony, 1 mare, 4 big wild geldings).
We still need more help to get these horses vetted tomorrow, and the beautiful Sidny needs xrays. She is in pain and we need the vet to assess her and make sure she is ok. Her knees are in absolutely horrific condition. “Wire Cut”, aka MACY also needs extra vet care. At this moment she is covered in Hives. Several of the others are limping badly and also need extra vetting. These kids are in rough shape.
We need to buy more milk, grain, hay etc. & pay for transporting, etc. etc.
Thankfully all the horses are paid for and the Fabulous Four have their Coggins already drawn and paid for.
Sadly, each group that comes in is thinner than the rest. Some of the local ranchers told me they have even sold their cattle due to the fact there is little to no feed out there. The change in these babies from the last group is tremendous. They are exhausted, skinny and many are extremely sore and barely moving.
Please help us get what we need to provide the best rehab and care for these precious kids. You “saved them”, so now the real work can begin.
It is simply “THAT TIME OF YEAR” when we have to ask for help almost daily. You can see whose lives you are saving and y’all know where your money goes. THANK YOU for saving the TERRIFIC TEN, but now we need to save these babies and I have to commit asap! PLEASE DONATE NOW AND HELP US SAVE THESE PRECIOUS SOULS! LET’S GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE THIS 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND. FREEDOM AND LIFE!!
Again, we are on the front line and have to save them now. You don’t get to choose “how many”. It’s ALL OR NOTHING!! Thank you for helping us continue saving lives.
These horses and the babies need help now!
Thank you.

President Trump has nominated the fox to guard the henhouse.
Last Friday, Trump announced his plan to move forward with his nomination of Acting Director William Perry Pendley to Director of the Bureau of Land Management.
Let’s take a look at why this poses the greatest threat to our wild horses and burros in decades:
Pendley has said that wild horses were the “biggest existential threat” to public lands, even though horses only live on approximately 12% of BLM lands.
He has falsely claimed that managing wild horses non-lethally would require more than $5 billion.
Pendley’s career to date has been spent fighting to sell off public lands to private industry. While at the BLM, Pendley has stepped up efforts to undermine environmental laws like the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act, which protects public lands from unrestricted oil and gas development, mining operations and livestock grazing.
Recently, under Pendley, the BLM delivered to Congress a billion-dollar plan to cull federally protected wild horse and burro herds by 70% by rounding up 80,000 mustangs and burros from public lands over the next five years.
It’s pretty clear where Pendley’s interests are vested and it’s NOT with our public lands and wild horses:
Pendley knows exactly what he’s doing. By putting an outrageously high price tag on humane management of wild horses and burros, he’s laying the groundwork to make the case that non-lethal management of wild horses is too expensive and that slaughter is the only option. We can’t let this happen. Join us in telling Congress to say NO to confirming Pendley as Director of the BLM.
Acting Director Pendley is peddling a profit-motivated attack campaign against wild horses — but we see through his lies. Not only is he advocating for the mass removal and sterilization of horses, he’s actively defending — and has spent his career in the pockets of — the real threats to our public lands:
Wild horses are facing one of the biggest threats in a lifetime, and we need to do everything we can to keep them safe and wild. Pendley has initiated a propaganda campaign against wild horses, which includes creating a fake crisis in order to convince Congress that non-lethal management of wild horses is too expensive. For this reason, we are asking you to take action today to protect wild horses from Pendley’s grips.
Thank you for taking action today to keep our wild horses safe and free.
American Wild Horse Campaign
PS — As William Pendley’s confirmation process rolls ahead, the agency he heads is charging ahead with its unprecedented summer assault against our beloved wild horses and burros. Beginning today, BLM helicopters will descend on remote regions of the West to stampede and capture 5,000 federally-protected wild horses and burros by September 30.
Our team is all hands on deck to fight back all summer long against this assault — with volunteers in the field, with lawsuits, with every advocacy tool at our disposal — but to do this, we need your help. Will you pitch in to our Roundup Fund today?
Folks came through at the last minute to help us save the 4 beautiful geldings. In addition to the 4 orphans and the big boys, y’all saved an injured mare called “wire cut” and a pony with horrific feet. YOU SAVED THEM – THANK YOU!!!
We are right in the middle of this rescue, and bam, the phone rings and we are on “emergency go mode’. We barely squeaked through to save the Terrific Ten, and now we need to save more. We are looking at another 8 minimum IF WE GET FUNDS TO SAVE THEM!
The big guys got their blood drawn for their Coggins today. I am heading out tomorrow to prep for the new babies and pick up the horses in WA that are heading to NV.

UPDATE – We have 2 orphan foals safe at Mel’s, and have enough money to save ONE of the 4.
I am hoping the Pandemic is not the reason and that this will NOT be the first time we couldn’t save the kids we are fundraising for.
It takes roughly $3,000 to save the 3 remaining geldings. (Apparently they are closer to 4 years old.)
This includes Bail, Vetting, Transportation, and that just gets them to safety. They still need care and feed until they are adopted, and I have to pay board on them once they are rescued until they are picked up.
I am praying this will not be a situation where I need to choose who lives or who dies. I cannot “pick” one or two to save and leave the others to die. This has never happened before. I know things are tight and the world is upside down. I just wanted to let everyone know where we are.
I was told if we are lucky we may have until Tuesday. It can change in a moment. If they are not saved they can be loaded at any time. We were asked to help save them, so that is what we are trying to do.
Thank you everyone who donated to save the others.
So much for a break…. (I apologize if you get this twice – having computer issues)
UPDATE – So far we have 2 babies and have been able to raise enough money to save 1 out of the 4 geldings. We got a reprieve, and still have a couple days to raise funds for the last 3. I know I certainly don’t want to have to pick which ones we save and who dies.
TRAPPER AND SHIPPER CALLED TODAY! These 4 youngsters’ need saved now! “TIME HAS RUN OUT”. Once again I need to act on faith. We simply cannot let them ship to slaughter. They are babies, approximately 2 years old?
(Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, but that was all I had.) I was notified that they will be shipping asap.
On top of that there are orphan foals coming in tonight.
Again, we are on the front line and have to save them now. Thank you for helping us continue saving lives.
These horses and the babies need help now!
Thank you.
