Chilly Pepper – 911 for “MIRACLE” He needs a miracle now, or he will be shot in the head this weekend

Hi,

Wow, you can’t even make this stuff up.

I received an urgent call for “Miracle”.

Miracle is described as a cryptorchid, one-eyed, unhandled 7-13 year old stallion who WILL BE SHOT IN THE HEAD by the previous owner this coming Saturday or Sunday if he is not picked up and off the property.

He looks like he could possibly need surgery on his eye, and that surgery and the cryptorchid surgery can be extremely expensive. For those who might be wondering, when a stallion is a “cryptorchid”, it means one of his testicles did not drop and is floating around or stuck somewhere in his abdomen.

Right now, all I am concerned about is raising funds so we can responsibly pick up this horse BEFORE it is too late. Look at that face. I am sorry but as far as I can tell he is NOT READY for a bullet in the head. PLEASE HELP us save his life.

He absolutely will need special care, but he does NOT deserve to die because he is a special needs kind of kid.

Please help us raise the funds for hauling, vetting, long term care and feed. As y’all know the list goes on and on, lol.

“Miracle” needs to come to Chilly Pepper – MIracle Mustang asap!! I simply cannot do it without your help.

Jax update. Jax has a serious and very deep injury. We still do not know if his bone has been, or how badly it has been affected. This is not going to be an easy or quick fix. He is on pain meds and antibiotics and getting the best care possible. His muscle was badly torn and we are following Doc’s instructions as always.

The Road to Home continues this September with another special equine waiting for the chance at forever. Every horse at AAE carries a unique story, but all are filled with hope for what’s ahead.

 

Your compassion is part of the bridge between where they’ve been and where they’re going. Together, we’re not just caring for horses. We’re opening doors to brighter futures.

 

This month we’re shining the spotlight on Ella! You might be the one she’s waiting for…or maybe you know just the right person to welcome her home.

ELLA

Ella is an elegant ~23-year old Arabian mare whose journey with AAE began after law enforcement intervened in a heartbreaking neglect case.

 

In Fall 2023, officers discovered Ella with a group of 23 other horses who were left behind on a high desert property without food or care. With winter approaching and the horses in deteriorated condition, authorities began providing care, but, sadly, it was too late for some.

 

By February 2024, the herd was officially seized, and transported to a fairgrounds livestock facility for care. The following month, we stepped in to assist, taking in 15 of the horses, including Ella and her two week old colt, Theo.

Ella gave birth to Theo during the night on March 5, 2024 at the fairgrounds in the icy chill of winter, and from the start, she proved herself to be an incredible mother.

When she first arrived, Ella carried the rough marks of neglect (a very thin frame, overgrown hooves, weary eyes, and dreadlocks in her mane). Despite all that, her beauty was undeniable. She was unhalterable, but with time, patience, and care, she’s transformed. Now she halters and leads willingly, stands fairly well for the farrier, and has learned that humans can be trusted.

Once her health had improved, we introduced her to light groundwork. Soon after, she surprised us all by calmly accepting a saddle pad and surcingle, and she gave to pressure with ease, as if she remembered an earlier life under saddle. Earlier this year, Ella carried a rider for the first time, at least the first time here at AAE. She was a bit nervous, but steady and willing, showing us that she has more to give with the right partner.

Ella has come so far, and now she’s ready to write the next part of her story with a family of her own. Could that be you? Or maybe someone you know?

 

Theo is also available for adoption, and while it would be wonderful to see them find a home together, each is very independent and ready to thrive with the right match.

Maultier Bote 2025-2

Dear Meredith,

Now the new Maultier Bote 2025-2 is finished. This time it’s about mule mail in Switzerland.

I also chose this topic for the first temporary exhibition in the new display case in Törbel. We co-financed the display case also with your last donation.

The room turned out very nicely; our carpenter did a great job again. The electrician also installed good lighting. Since the room is very low and small (tall people have to watch their heads), the electrician had to think about what would work best.

The idea for the display case came to me partly from your display case for the Swiss Mule exhibition. We can tell a lot in a relatively small space.
On June 22, 20 people came to the open house, which also served as a inauguration.

Every year, I will now put on a new exhibition in this room, which will make the museum even more interesting. I have more than enough ideas.

Before Elke died, she gave me the “task” of continuing the art mule calendar. Now it’s my turn, so I have to start thinking about the next year as early as summer. Choosing beautiful mule paintings is almost like a drug for me. It’s amazing how much I can find when I immerse myself in it. I have to choose 12 subjects, so the decision is difficult.

How are the construction works on your ranch coming along? That building site is/was a bit bigger than our display room was. I’m looking forward to seeing your new museum section. I’m sure it will be fantastic.

Here in Switzerland, we’re experiencing our second heatwave; the first was in June, while July was very cool with lots of rain. I have to do train before noon with my old pony Claude and the mule mare Baila. Claude doesn’t like the heat, Baila gets upset by the insects, and sweat runs into my eyes and stings. But that usually only lasts a short time; here in Switzerland, we’re still lucky, in southern Europe, it seems like all hell is breaking loose with the many forest fires.

What do you do as an AAE Volunteer?

I am a Sunday morning Shift Lead, I participate on the Community and Donor Relations Team (call recent donors to connect with them to create long-standing relationships), and I also organize the Dessert Auction for Boots & Bling

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

Continuing my knowledge on horse care, being around horses, and ultimately that we rescue horses from dire situations, rehabilitate them, and find forever homes for them.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

Right now it’s Selena, but I’ve had several favorites since 2017. June was my first, then Jessie, Maisy, and Selena, and I’m also partial to Jetta.

I was a pm shift leader at the rescue for almost 10 years. Now I am volunteering at the AAE Used Tack Store. I open and close the store and assist our customers in finding what they need.

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

I love horse hugs! I miss the horses since I’m volunteering at the store. However, I’m still a part of the wonderful group of volunteers of AAE. We are all doing whatever we can to help the horses.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

I’ve had many favorite horses over the years. They all tug at your heart.

Meet Lisa and Rich!

AAE Volunteer for 12 years!

 

What do you do as an AAE Volunteer?

We work on the Thursday AM shift! We love our shift lead, Jen, and our Thursday Volunteers! We are bartenders at our Boots & Bling event. Lisa gives tours at the Ranch and does “follow-up calls” after orientation. Rich helped build the barn in El Dorado Hills. We are both “handlers” occasionally for orientation.

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

What’s not to LOVE! Volunteering for any worthy cause is so personally rewarding, and volunteering in the care of animals is so much more special. We love all our horses, farm animals, & volunteers at this fantastic organization (AAE). What a beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon with our human and animal friends.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

Hard to pick a favorite given the 12 years we’ve volunteered. Finnegan is one as we’ve watched him grow from a baby to the big lovable goober he’s become! Selena is another horse we partially sponsor and love to spend time with. She was rescued, and we thought she was pregnant, but she was just a “healthy” horse! Stay “healthy” Selena!!!! Love our shoulder HUGS!

Sandra’s Legacy: A Love for Horses That Lasts Forever

The following is from All About Equine Animal Rescue:

Sandra Fields, PhD, a neighbor when we were in El Dorado Hills, had a lifelong love of horses. She also had a special appreciation for All About Equine and the volunteers who cared for horses-in-need.

 

Sandra often paused at the rescue – watching the horses, chatting with volunteers, and simply enjoying the peace of being near them. When she learned that AAE was searching for a home of its own, she knew she wanted to make a difference. Her gift made it possible for AAE to acquire our Pilot Hill property – a safe, soft landing where horses and volunteers can heal and thrive, and the horses can wait for their forever homes.

 

Sandra’s incredible gift changed AAE forever. Her legacy will continue helping horses for generations to come, and we will remember her always.
This is another important reminder. When life takes an unexpected turn, the ones we love most – our families and our animals – are often the most vulnerable.

 

Recently, seven beloved horses came to AAE a021 their owner became bedridden, and her spouse was left with their care but didn’t have the knowledge or experience to meet their basic care needs. Sadly, the horses suffered terribly as a result.

 

This heartbreaking situation is a powerful reminder of why it’s so important to plan ahead. As pet owners, we can ensure our horses and other animals continue to receive the love and protection they deserve by making arrangements before a crisis arises.

 

August is “Make A Will Month”. This month is the perfect time to create your legacy – make or update your will. By including All About Equine in your plans, you can protect not only your family but also the horses and other animals you care about – and give horses-in-need a future filled with hope, healing, and second chances to those still waiting – just like Sandra did.

Before We Say Goodbye to August…

It’s hard to believe we are already nearing the end of August! It’s been a busy and exciting month here at AAE, filled with adoptions, new arrivals, special moments, and plenty of hard work behind the scenes. We’re eager to share some of the highlights with you in this month’s roundup.
JULIETTE
This month’s featured horse, Juliette, is going to her forever home today! We are so excited for her, and we look forward to hearing about her future with her new partner in life!

 
Juliette was the most beautiful “ugly duckling” who came to AAE in March of 2024. She was part of the large abandoned group of 15 horses that came to AAE. Juliette was one of two older fillies, and she was the skinny and somewhat sickly looking gal that was at the bottom of the pecking order. She was pushed off feed wherever she went to eat. It didn’t take long to see what was going on, and soon she had a paddock shared only with the other older filly. They got along very well. Juliette has come a long way, mentally and physically, and she blossomed into one of, if not the most beautiful of the bunch. We’ll miss this sweet girl!

 

As a reminder, in late 2023, officers discovered 24 abandoned horses on a remote high-desert property, left without food or care. With winter approaching and the horses in deteriorating condition, authorities began providing support, but sadly, a few did not survive. By February 2024, the herd was officially seized, and the following month AAE stepped in, taking in 15 of the horses—mares with foals, young fillies, and a colt born shortly after seizure. Both Juliette (above) and Coley (below) were part of this group. Congrats, Juliette and Chibbon!!

ANOTHER RECENT ADOPTION!

COLEY

Coley was also in the group of 15. She arrived with her mom, Claire, and she has since grown into a healthy, curious, and beautiful young filly. She was weaned, learned her basics–haltering, leading, farrier work–and enjoyed life with the other youngsters in the big pasture while growing and building her confidence. Cute, spunky, and full of personality, Coley quickly caught the eye of her new family and, last week, she was adopted into wonderful and loving home, and she has a very bright future ahead. Remember when she they arrived….

Say Howdy to Jinks!

Jinks is a mid-teen stallion who came to AAE at the end of July following a law enforcement seizure. He was reported to animal control several times over the past few years due to repeatedly wandering the streets and bothering neighboring mares. He wasn’t halterable, so neighbors and law enforcement had a hard time capturing him, and he’d eventually go home He was finally captured behind a gate, taken into custody, and seized, then transferred to AAE.

 

Jinks wasn’t halterable, initially, but he’s smart, and he learned (or relearned) quickly. He’s learning quickly about hoof care and the farrier, he’s been castrated, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped, and he’s having dental work today.

Jinks has a friendly disposition, but he does not appear to have any substantial training. Other than being a bit mouthy, he’s been a well-behaved stallion (all things considered), and he will continue his learning as we go. So far, he’s getting along well with his neighboring geldings, and they’ll be introduced once he’s healed from his surgery.

Lucky 7 Update
Earlier this month, Nevada law enforcement reached out for help with nine horses in urgent need. An elderly couple owned them, but when their primary caregiver became bedridden, the responsibilities for the horses’ care fell upon her spouse, who lacked the knowledge to provide proper care for them. Sadly, two were in such dire condition, they were humanely and compassionately euthanized. They had all been confined in mare motel paddocks, apparently for years with no turnout. They were standing on mounds of deep manure, and though they had food and water, it appears they had gone without hoof and dental care for years, as well. The undersides of their hooves were some of the worst we’ve seen with extremely overgrown bars pinching through frogs, deep thrush, abscesses, and severe imbalances, flares, and white line separations.
As of today, the two stallions have been castrated, all have had at least one round of hoof trimming, dental care, vaccines, and microchips. All have some degree of lameness and/or muscle weakness after years of confinement. This group needs a lot of TLC, and we are hopeful they will all come around and be able to enjoy their golden years with

 

They arrived at AAE thin, neglected. After quarantine and a recent spa days, they’re finally on the path to recovery.
Lex & Luther, the Super Men

As of today, the two stallions have been castrated, and they’re recovering well. Lex, the palamino paint, is a 20+ gelding that is mild-mannered and easy-going, at this point. Luther, a mid-teen gelding, is less confident and needs a bit slower approach. They will be separated from mares for at least six to eight weeks, but as soon as their surgical sites heal, they’ll start the transition to herd life. The incredible Uncle Finn will likely be one of their mentors since he’s such a mild-mannered guy that tolerates a ton.
Toothless

We were told Ol’ Toothless is a 25-26 year old, we think at least. He is the sweetest old man, and we can’t wait to see him feeling better. He’s not quite toothless, but it’s looking like his lower jaw may be before long. It’s no wonder he’s so thin. Despite what’s likely a painful mouth with dead teeth and a solo loose tooth (in front), he follows us around like a pup, and he enjoys every second of interaction. His hooves were in bad shape, too. He’ll be feeling better soon. Poor mister, he’s an all around easy guy, and he’s looking forward to being spoiled and loved from now on.
Tori and Millie

These two senior ladies are very bonded. We were told they were 20/21. They both had serious hoof issues that caused significant pain. Beautiful bald-faced Tori was very imbalanced and uncomfortable (though the photo doesn’t do justice to how bad it is), and Millie was trying to hobble along with overgrown bars in all hooves, and there was an abscess in her hind hoof hidden under the bar overgrowth that had pinched off the front of her frog. These poor mares hooves were sooo bad, though from the surface, it wasn’t so obvious. They’ve had a round of trimming, but they’ll need some extra hoof care while their internal structures adjust. They’re already moving so much better. Despite all they’ve been through, they’re so kind and still seek interaction with humans, and they enjoy it so much!
Bria and Lacey

We were told Bria is a 20-year old paint mare, and Lacey is a 30-year old BLM mustang mare. They are both sweet as pie. Besides horrible hooves, Bria has had chronic fetlock sores for who knows how long. Sweet Lacey has much overegrown hooves and very deep thrush. These two have are very tender-footed and with recent trimming, they are on their way to relief. We’ll know a treatment plan for Bria’s fetlock sores later today. No doubt these two are ready for relief! Bria is a bit mare-ish with Toothless, so she has been kept separate while the other girls and Toothless have enjoyed some cohabitating and a bit more social time.
As of today, all have had at least one round of hoof trimming, dental care, vaccines, and microchips. Sadly, all have some degree of lameness and/or muscle weakness from long=term confinement and standing on a bed of manure. That said, they all seem to be moving more comfortably after their trims. This group needs a lot of TLC, and we are hopeful they will all recover so they can be pampered in their golden years with loving families of their own.

Chilly Pepper – Quick update – Appreciate your continued love and support.

Need to make this quick. Thank you for all the love and support. Out of the 10 orphans from WA, Danniell Dustin took all but one for me. As my bone is broken around my prosthetic, I am not really supposed to do anything right now. Sadly Cherry was so badly injured she wouldn’t have made the trailer ride, so I kept her with me.

I have needed to hire help pretty much daily, and I cannot thank y’all enough for your wonderful donations. I am not ok to type more than a few minutes, but wanted to say thank you and please keep helping Chilly Pepper. We did get Doc in WA paid off. Woohoo – Thank you, and I am still needing to pay Doc in NV.

I need to order small hay bales, and keep hiring someone to handle the daily chores at this point. The quad is down and needs to go to the shop. I will need it as soon as I can use my arm again. :)

Everyone is doing extremely well here at Chilly Pepper, and it is all because of YOU, MY CHILLY PEPPER FAMILY. I am sure I am forgetting stuff, and hopefully will be able to do a better update soon.

Please help us finish paying the vet bill in NV and order the small hay bales. Cherry needs her baby grain and milk pellets and I am just so grateful for each and every penny donated. Good help is hard to find and when I do find it, I need to pay them so nothing goes to the wayside while I am healing.

A big thank you to NV Danielle for taking care of the rescue while I was rescuing in WA.

Need to make this quick. Thank you for all the love and support. Out of the 10 orphans from WA, Danniell Dustin took all but one for me. As my bone is broken around my prosthetic, I am not really supposed to do anything right now. Sadly Cherry was so badly injured she wouldn’t have made the trailer ride, so I kept her with me.

I have needed to hire help pretty much daily, and I cannot thank y’all enough for your wonderful donations. I am not ok to type more than a few minutes, but wanted to say thank you and please keep helping Chilly Pepper. We did get Doc in WA paid off. Woohoo – Thank you, and I am still needing to pay Doc in NV.

I need to order small hay bales, and keep hiring someone to handle the daily chores at this point. The quad is down and needs to go to the shop. I will need it as soon as I can use my arm again. :)

Everyone is doing extremely well here at Chilly Pepper, and it is all because of YOU, MY CHILLY PEPPER FAMILY. I am sure I am forgetting stuff, and hopefully will be able to do a better update soon.

Please help us finish paying the vet bill in NV and order the small hay bales. Cherry needs her baby grain and milk pellets and I am just so grateful for each and every penny donated. Good help is hard to find and when I do find it, I need to pay them so nothing goes to the wayside while I am healing.

THIS SEVEN HORSE NEGLECT CASE

They’ve all arrived at AAE, and we’ve got our hands full!! Thankfully, they’ve been getting some good “groceries” the last week or two, and they’re already looking better. We’re still working on photos, but here are a few more to get started.

If you missed the email on Wednesday, we took another leap of faith and said yes to support our Nevada law enforcement friends to bring these seven neglected horses into our care. They didn’t have options, and they need help to get back to good health, and two more handsome boys need castration surgery. Another group of horses means a whole lot of needs all at once! Together, we can do this, again!

These horses belonged to an elderly couple, and the primary caretaker became bedridden some time ago. Unfortunately, the care responsibilities fell upon her spouse; he wasn’t a horse person and didn’t have the necessary knowledge to care for them properly. Sadly, two additional horses were in such dire condition, they were euthanized. We’re hoping the remaining seven are well enough to improve with good nutrition and much-needed hoof and dental care. They’ve been standing in piles of manure while confined in small mare motel paddocks for who knows how long. We’re grateful for the swift action by law enforcement!

They’re at AAE in quarantine, and we have a vet/farrier day, soon. Before long, they’ll be free to roam and enjoy a new life. Second chances like these are exactly why we work so hard to give these sweet beings the life they deserve!

All seven horses need dentals, hoof care, sheath cleaning for the boys, vaccines, deworming, and microchipping, and the two stallions need to be gelded. Additional diagnostics may be needed, too, including pregnancy testing for the mares and possible radiographs for some of the more extreme hooves, as well as any other issues that may be discovered. The fetlock sores will likely need some veterinary intervention with extended treatment/bandaging.
Can you help us raise funds to cover these initial costs for this intake? We’re estimating at least $500 per horse, plus $750-1200 each for the two castrations, diagnostics, wound care, and transport costs (we transport ourselves, but it still takes time and fuel, not to mention wear and tear on the trucks/trailers).

 

Additional funding will likely be needed if the mares are pregnant and/or if additional issues are discovered.

AAE has once again been called to help in another heartbreaking neglect case–this time involving nine horses.

 

Their elderly owners, one bedridden, were doing the best they could under the circumstances. Aging brings its own challenges, and situations like this are a powerful reminder of how important it is to make long-term plans for the animals we love.

 

Two of these horses were in such poor condition that the kindest, most compassionate option was to help them cross the Rainbow Bridge. If there had been a way to save them, we would have tried.

 

We are in the process of bringing two stallions, one gelding, and four mares (including a gentle, 30-year-old BLM mare) to AAE. All are in dire need of basic care and then some:

·     Dental & hoof care

·     Deworming, vaccines, and microchips

·     Pelleted feed for seniors and quality hay for the others

·     Castration for the two stallions

·     Extended treatment for a mare who has severe, chronic fetlock sores

·     Possible radiographs and bloodwork for several horses

·     One mare’s prognosis is uncertain due to hoof issues, but for now, she has a chance, and we believe she deserves it.

The initial efforts (transport, urgent vet, farrier, and feed) will be costly. Their rescue is only the beginning. Months of daily care, rehabilitation, and patience is the hard work that follows, as they wait for a solid forever home.

JULIETTE

Juliette is a beautiful young Arabian filly, estimated to be about four years old. Her journey to AAE began after law enforcement intervened in a heartbreaking neglect case.

 

In late 2023, officers discovered a group of 24 horses had been left behind on a high desert property without food or care. With winter approaching and the horses in deteriorating condition, authorities began providing care, but, sadly, it was too late for some.

 

By February 2024, the herd was officially seized, and the following month, we stepped in to assist, taking in 15 of the horses, including mares with foals, young fillies, and one colt who was born shortly after the seizure.

Juliette was among them. She arrived scared, thin, and timid. She was often pushed away from food by the others, even with multiple feeders in the paddocks. But despite it all, she yearned for connection. With patience and gentle care, she began to open up.

Today, this once-shy girl is blossoming. She halters and leads well, and while she’s still gaining confidence with the farrier, she improves with every visit. She’s been introduced to a flag, saddle pad, and saddle, and she has taken everything in stride with courage and curiosity.

Juliette is ready for a home of her own. She’s seeking a horse-savvy adopter who can appreciate her sweet, kind soul and continue to help her build trust and confidence. She needs more time to grow and develop physically before beginning any demanding activity.

Chilly Pepper – Quick update. Help is still needed and much appreciated!

Good morning

Thank you for your help. Sadly, I am going to need lots of extra help for a while.

I am in Goldendale with Cherry. She was too badly injured to head to Idaho with the rest of the kids. Her ankle is badly injured and slowly improving with the meds and the clay treatment.

The one picture shows the water I am squirting into one of the puncture wounds, coming out of one of the other holes. That was a good sign as it did not go through her leg or appear to enter the joint cavity.

My shoulder is pretty much excruciating, but I am grateful to God that I have been able to take care of Cherry. Doing shots one handed is not the easiest. This beautiful little girl is so sweet that we have had zero issues when I am treating her.

Our vet bill in Goldendale is now down to $2052. Thank you everyone who has helped. We still owe Doc in Nevada as well, and I believe that is right around $1000. We are looking right around $3000 left to pay off the vets. I also need to pay the folks taking care of the NV kids while I am stuck here.

Cherry needs more milk pellets, baby grain and some good hay. She is doing a tiny bit better each day. However she is still not out of the woods yet.

I am running short on clay and of course having to hire folks to take care of the critters in NV.

I cannot begin to express my appreciation for all the love and support. I am a bit frustrated from the new pain, but also grateful everything worked out with the babies and I am able to care for Cherry.

Typing is extremely painful and I hope this makes sense. Please know that every penny is appreciated and please pray for Cherry and that this does not affect the prosthetic in my shoulder.

What do you do as an AAE Volunteer?

I am the Shift Lead on Monday and Wednesday mornings, I lead the silent auction donation team for Boots & Bling, I participate on the Community and Donor Relations Team, and I am a new member of the AAE Board of Directors.

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

I love the horses! I have a lot of respect for how well all the animals are cared for. I’ve seen many horses completely transform from weak and frail beings to happy, healthy horses. This does not happen by accident; it takes a village of volunteers and donors. I’m proud to be a part of this village.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

I loved Barney and his big slobbery hugs, and now I’m building a relationship with Maia. She is nervous, but can’t resist the joy of having her belly rubbed.

What do you do as an AAE Volunteer?

I am the lead volunteer at the AAE Used Tack Store. I have been volunteering at AAE’s store since it opened in Fall 2017, and I helped get it ready for opening. Before the store, I used to volunteer at the ranch in El Dorado Hills, helping care for the horses.

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

I love my co-workers and hearing the store customers with their horse stories.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

It was Daisy (pictured above). When I would ride up on my motorcycle, she would run to the fence and bray till I gave her a head scratch.

AAE Volunteer for 10.5 years!

What do you do as an AAE Volunteer?

My regular jobs are making feed, distributing feed, and mucking stalls. I participate in fundraising and volunteer at special events. I may also repair a hose, gate, or float.

 

What do you love about AAE and/or volunteering at AAE?

It’s very rewarding to see horses come in that are distressed or neglected and see them be rehabilitated until they are healthy enough to be adopted. Putting my hands on horses is what gives me the most pleasure. I enjoy working on building relationships with different horses and learning their different personalities. Working with my regular Monday crew of volunteers is fun as we are a well-balanced team that knows our different responsibilities each day and undertake them with great enthusiasm and care for the horses.

 

Who is your favorite AAE horse and why?

I have had so many favorite horses over the years, some which were adopted and sadly, some that have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Early on, some of my favorites were Magic, Angus (pictured above), Gabby, and, of course, Barney. Now I am very fond of Ballerini since I was the first volunteer to see her after her birth on Tuesday, 2-22-22. I wanted to name her “Two’s Day”. It has been rewarding to watch her grow and turn into the Big Beautiful horse she is today.

Chilly Pepper – 911 CALL FOR 4 BABIES – WILL YOU HELP ME SAVE THEIR LIVES?

The following is from Chilly Pepper – Miracle Mustang:

I received an urgent 911 for 4 orphan babies. These kids have literally no where else to go. As always, we need funds for Purchase, pick up/hauling, milk, brand inspections, hay, vetting etc. As of this moment I simply do not even have enough funds to cover their purchase.

I seriously need another “happy”, as we all do, after losing Shrek. Shrek wasn’t eating on his own, so I syringed him every hour. He seemed to “perk up” about 1:30 a.m., and started talking to me. We gave him everything and then some. He was in quite a bit of pain in the morning and was extremely sensitive to touch. After I gave him a dose of pain meds, he started walking up the the people who were at the rescue and asking for loves. A few hours later I fed him and he laid down for his “after dinner nap” like he always did.

I knew something was different, and I knew I was losing him. You want to go hysterical, but that is not good for them. So I held him as he quietly passed. Then I made the semi hysterical calls and rushed him in for a necropsy. Doc said it is often hard to find out what went wrong on those so small, but I had to know. It was beyond obvious when he did the necropsy. The internal bruising was vibrant and beyond obvious. We knew he had been stepped on/trampled immediately after birth, but only the injury to his leg was obvious. He simply didn’t have a chance after that. His Momma is a baby herself, and she wouldn’t let him eat and obviously knew something was wrong.

There are days when “I just can’t anymore”, yet at the same time it is something so precious and private when you spend 24/7 with them and you form an unbelievable bond. Yes this shattered my heart once again, but I am thankful to God that He chose me to spend that precious time with Shrek and be able to ease his pain and give him the chance to enjoy so much love before he passed. THANK YOU to everyone who helped him. I have no idea how bad that vet bill will be, but it was worth every penny.

Great news on Arielle – As is clear in the photos, her injury has improved dramatically, and we are expecting a full recovery. Thank you God, for the magic clay and Your healing.

Lil Man (the big dorky BLM kid) is settling in nicely. He is happy and has no idea that his body is so badly put together. I am running with Doc’s idea to just let him live and see how he does. He is happy and running and playing and thinks he is all that.

PLEASE HELP ME SAVE THE 4 BABIES FROM TODAY’S CALL. They deserve every chance, even though it does cost LOTS of money to save them and care for them. Y’all Rock and I am so grateful for all of you.

Chilly Pepper – MY Broken Shoulder and have 6 babies with me. I need help asap please!

Good morning
I am in Goldendale with 6 babies.
Friday, I tripped and fell on a broken sidewalk. I knew it hurt really badly, but I wanted to give it a few days. I should have known by how shocky I was, but here we are.
The bone is broken around the prosthetic, and that can complicate healing. Going to Ortho Doc tomorrow. Not sure of the extent of the damage, but it puts me in a real pickle.
I am sitting here with 6 babies. Hauler is scheduled to take them to Dannielle Dustin’ rescue in Idaho. That needs to happen asap. So far we have not quite covered the purchase of the new babies. I still have vet bills in NV for Shrek and haven’t paid the entire bill at Goldendale Vet I will also have to keep someone hired to take care of things at the rescue until I get a bit better.
Hopefully this makes sense. I am on a bit of medication, and man this hurts worse than my tibia and my broken femur.
Appreciate you all stepping up and helping me get through this latest challenge. Prayers so very much appreciated.

HARLEY & QUINN

Do you remember this sweet, bonded pair of doodles that landed at AAE? They were in pretty rough shape when we found them on the side of the highway—matted, underweight, and scared.

Thanks to lots of TLC, multiple vet visits, and much-needed grooming (they lost 15 pounds of mats between them!), they each gained about 20 pounds, and their curly coats and their lovely personalities started to shine.

 

Now, they’ve found a home together where they can keep doing what they do best: spreading joy, playing ball, and asking for belly rubs. Most importantly, they’re together forever! We’ll all miss these two lovebugs, but we’re so happy for them and their new family!!

Thanks to all of you who followed their journey and helped make their happy ending possible!

Thank you for all the love you shared for Ten
A couple weeks ago, we welcomed Ten after he was abandoned in a rural area. We shared his story, an update, and sadly, his recent passing after 11 days in our care. He was making progress in many ways. His brighter eyes, perky ears, and sweet nickers were so heartwarming despite what he’d been through. Losing him was such a heartbreak after such high hopes, and we’ve been so moved and grateful for all of your messages, comments, and all of the heartfelt communication we’ve received. We’ll never forget Ten or your love for him. We can’t thank you enough!

The Beautiful Coley
This lovely little filly has an adoption pending and will be going home soon. Coley was part of the 15 horse intake we supported last year. Two foal were born after the group arrived at AAE. She was malnourished and tiny for her age. The group had been abandoned in high desert conditions and survived though winter before being seized by law enforcement. Coley recovered beautifully, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for her with her new family!

Thanks to your support, these six lovelies are ready to find their new families. Our two stallions have been castrated, all have had their dentals, hoof care, and vaccines, and all have new microchips. Huck, River, and Phantom have transitioned to pasture life, and they are enjoying. They are very much connected, but they are integrating into the herd and their independence is slowly growing. Rosie moved to the farm area with the other mini, while Jelly Roll moved in next to Zeke. Zeke is getting to know Jelly Roll, while Copper chills nearby. The new geldings are still enjoying independent bachelor life while they heal, and clear their systems of those lil’ tadpoles! They’re all settling in and evolving into sweet, mostly nice, social horses. Rosie is still a bit nervous, but seems to appreciate little humans. River rules the roost with her two boys (Phantom and Huck). Crazy stallion Copper has become a gentleman and a love bug (most of the time)! He’s really a doll. We’ll be spending more time learning about their abilities in coming weeks. Thank you, again, for the support and opportunity for this group to have a soft landing and get the care they needed. They deserved it! Stay tuned and check back on the website for updates.

Chilly Pepper – Dire situation for baby donkey. SHREK is crashing. Emergency Vet Visit. He needs your help!

The following is from Chilly Pepper – Miracle Mustang:

Baby Donkey Shrek is only 5 days old and crashing. His situation is critical and he was rushed to the hospital for an emergency plasma transfusion, fluids and meds.

Shrek’s Mom decided she did not want him, and would not let him nurse. We are not sure if this is because she is still a baby at only about 2 years old, or if she knows something is wrong with Shrek and is behaving like they do in the wild. She was starting to get pretty rough with him and it was clear he had to be pulled immediately.

In the wild, if a baby is sick or has something wrong, the babies are often just left behind or even killed.

Please help us help Shrek. His plasma was over $500??? and this is just the beginning. He also needs lots of prayers. We are in 24/7 Critical care mode and he is literally hour by hour.

Ten was loved, but love wasn’t enough!

Ten knew love and kindness, thanks to you!

It is with immense sadness that we share the loss of our sweet, Ten. Though we were hopeful and encouraged by his progress over the past 11 days, his condition declined overnight. Today, with broken hearts, we helped him across the Rainbow Bridge.

 

Ten was an incredibly kind soul, and he fought so hard to live. He enjoyed his friends that showered him with care and attention. He loved looking out over his “door” overseeing the activities at the ranch. He nickered when someone would come visit or bring his meals. You could tell how much he savored his mashy meals by the added color and textures that wrapped around his muzzle. Overall, his days seemed good, but the toll of starvation and lack of care took its toll on his body. Ten’s time with us was far too short, but he’s sure left a lasting impression on all our hearts.

 

We hoped for a different outcome, but we’re grateful Ten an opportunity to know love and kindness in the end. Thank you for giving him that.

YOU SAVED 8 orphaned mustang babies. THANK YOU!

Will you help me save another life? Meet “Lil Man”, who is anything but little. He is a BLM kid and was working on his 3rd strike. We all know what that means. He is one of the homeliest, goofiest looking kids we have ever tried to save, but man is he sweet, and I couldn’t “not” give him a chance. I said yes on Faith and the trust that y’all always come through for these precious souls.

He was a “medical”, which means I was told he most likely needed surgery on his hocks as the guesstimated diagnosis was OCD. His legs look horrible and he is just a hot mess, but wants to run and play. Doc said give him a chance and let him grow into the mess that is his body.

He would not have had any chance of living if he was deemed needing surgery, so we were asked to give him his last chance. I could not wait on the decision, as I only had a couple hours to make sure he was safe. The folks at BLM were amazing and helped me get through the paperwork, as he had been “returned” by someone else previously.

Apparently, his body is growing way too fast and his poor joints are not keeping up and they often end up with bone chips floating around causing pain and crippling issues. His left front foot buckles horribly to the side when he moves and is tired. He is just a baby, about 3 years old, and the look in his eyes was “please give me a chance”.

We really need more help with milk pellets and powder and to pay off the vet bill. The babies are going through a bucket of milk powder about every 5 days, in addition to milk pellets. We had a wonderful donation for big bales of hay, but the babies need small bales and a completely different mix. They also need their special baby grain. We were blessed to have Dustin Time come and take some of the babies to their rescue. However Chilly Pepper incurred all the initial costs and still have babies. Arielle is doing much better, (the one who was attacked by the mountain lion), although we needed a special vet visit and I also need more clay for her. She says THANK YOU!

I was told when they found Arielle they said we have 2 choices. We either turn her loose and let nature take it’s course, or “I know a lady”. Thankfully, they brought her to me.
