Chilly Pepper – Another Emergency Call, – 911 for a BLM mare, that will make your blood boil…. We need to save her now!

The following is from Chilly Pepper – Miracle Mustang:

I received another emergency call.

This one really infuriates me, and she is one of our own BLM wild mares, (Nevada peeps, or so I was told).

I was asked about a week or so ago if I could help place a BLM Mare that needed a place to go. I was trying to see if we could make any progress in helping find that home, as I am not really set up to take her on right now.

Then I got the “last call,” a few hours ago.

TODAY, we were told “IF SHE IS NOT OFF THE PROPERTY BY FRIDAY, SHE WILL GET A BULLET IN HER HEAD.

Do you know why???? Because A NEW HORSE IS COMING AND NEEDS HER SPACE. So, if she is NOT off the property. they will SHOOT HER DEAD, simply because they couldn’t do anything with her and they are bringing a “better horse” home to take her spot.

Spice is a wild mustang, is “reactive”, and “can’t be trained”, so their answer is to not feed her properly and shoot her. She has been alone for years, with zero contact with any other horses for years. It’s time to end her suffering and bring her some joy.

Please help us save her life. We need funds for transport, any vetting needed, feed, possibly for years, and the list goes on. We need to say yes, AND raise funds for a horse that may take a very long time to place. She deserves so much better than she has gotten!

As usual, I am going on Faith, and am trusting God will provide for her and make this happen. I couldn’t say no.

Let’s keep one more BLM mustang from ending up dead, like so many others.

Dexter seemed like he was improving, but his hind end, and the foot with the shoe on it is still causing serious issues. His front feet are improving, but he is still too weak to lay down with sedation, so Tiona is working with him a little bit more, every day. He needs serious prayers. He is not out of the woods yet :(.

Teddy Bear has a new babysitter, so he is feeling better, and things are going well for him, so far.

Chilly Pepper – Meet Baby Teddy Bear, and update on Dexter & Grandpa George

Meet Teddy Bear. Got a call from my friend who asked if I could take him, as he was alone with no Mama in sight, so of course I said yes.

So far Teddy Bear seems to be pretty healthy, but foals can crash in a minute. Appreciate prayers for this youngster.

(I did wonder how smart it was taking on an orphan, as I am still on crutches, but we are figuring it out, as always.)

He is loving his milk and his goodies, and we have some good news regarding Dexter.

Tiona is taking great care of Dexter, and treating and wrapping his abscesses daily, and he is walking much better. He is still a long way from out of the woods, but it is definitely good news.

Grandpa George is settling in and seems to feel right at home.

We STILL NEED $800, JUST to actually get them bailed and picked up. Both will require long term care.

They will need long term care, special feed, vetting, farrier work etc. Poor Dexter has shoes on :(

The bail is the easy part, so they will definitely need more help,

However, TODAY they need $800 to get off the lot and safely to Chilly Pepper.

PLEASE HELP NOW!! Grandpa George and Dexter came from the same place and are scheduled to ship to slaughter in 2 days. They are both special needs and a hot mess.

Both are near starving, and the stallion has been badly beaten. He is covered in scars and saddle marks, which is outrageous, especially because he is essentially STILL a baby. He has serious weight issues, and his back end is messed up, possible permanently.

Grandpa George is hard to catch, which also indicates abuse or being mistreated, especially at that age. Who knows what he looks like under that nasty coat, but he is definitely in extremely rough shape from what I have been told. Both have been neglected and mistreated, per the lot.

As usual, I went out on Faith, and told her we would come through for these precious souls.

We need to raise serious funds to pay for the bail, initial hauling, vetting (bloodwork to cross state lines) special feed and hoof care, not to mention gelding him once he is healthy. This is a serious commitment as we could easily end up with both of them long term.

PLEASE HELP NOW! They have been through horrors no horse should ever see. Let’s start a new life for them

ANOTHER CALL

I received a call today for this beautiful “SENIOR PONY”

He is in his 20’s, and has a few health issues. He needs his lil hoofers done, special feed and has to have some teeth pulled right away. He has had some damage to his coffin bone, (it’s lightly rotated, but the vet said with proper care he should have another 10 years or so.)

He will be a permanent part of our Chilly Pepper Family and a star in our Sunshine and Smiles Program.

Will you help Grandpa Sonny? As you can see he is a long way from ready to quit.

Several folks thought he should be euthanized, but luckily he had an advocate who saw him for who he was and said no.

He will need to be assessed further by Doc, and have his dental work done asap. We know, from the Vet who checked him out two days ago, that he needs at least 2 teeth pulled along with some additional dental care.

We need funds for his transportation, (approximately $650), funds for his initial vetting, hoof trims, meds and to get his teeth done. We also need to purchase special low carb feed and hay for him. WILL YOU PLEASE HELP US GET GRANDPA SONNY HOME TO CHILLY PEPPER?

THANK YOU for helping save so many lives.

Our Chilly Pepper Family is amazing, and I love and appreciate ALL OF YOU!

Jasmine, the sad, skinny, mare that was headed for slaughter, (obviously intentionally), is now safe and sound in her new home.

Her description turned everyone away except the kill buyers and Chilly Pepper. She has shown NONE of those things she was accused of. The woman who picked her up for me and did her assessment knows how to treat an animal. She fell in love with her and has adopted her._

I’m thanking God I listened to that little voice and we gave her a chance. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME.

This winter is tough. We lost a shelter last night, and thankfully no one was under it. It’s been snowing every day, and it doesn’t look like it will end soon. Well now we have lost 4 shelters in a 12 hour period. Trav could see them crumple while he was working on some of the others. Too much wet, heavy, snow. A couple were from last year or before, so those losses are understandable. However, this is definitely inconvenient at best.

Several feet of snow also makes it a bit more interesting on crutches.

I know God has a plan, so I am doing one day at a time and getting out the year end, donation receipts.

The horses seem to be enjoying the snow, and when you see ice and snow on their coats, it means they are warm and cozy inside. If they were losing body heat, the snow and ice would be melting and they would be shivering. God sure knew what he was doing.

Happy New Year

WE NEED TO SAVE ONE MORE LIFE FOR 2023!

I received a 911 call for this beautiful mare about an hour ago. She was at the Eugene auction, and this was her description:

7yr old grey mare – BITER, KICKER, STRIKER

THAT DESCRIPTION IS BASICALLY A DEATH SENTENCE, especially when so many healthy, ridable horses are being dumped daily.

So Jasmine, (that is the name she told me) either has some serious issues, which may be caused by people, or maybe someone dumped her and just wanted her to go to slaughter.

WE HAD TO SAVE HER! Her bail was cheap, I believe it was $160? However, that is the “free part”.

We need funds to pay the hauler, for quarantine, the vet for paperwork, any needed tests, and to pay for her evaluation and to be assessed, before we make any decisions.

IF, there was something horrible wrong and the vet and trainer feels like she is unsafe, we will go from there. There is no situation where being humanely euthanized is not better than shipping to Mexico for slaughter.

At this point however,*we are NOT THINKING euthanasia. Usually that kind of behavior is from being mistreated and poorly handled. I can have my hauler pick her up, but we need funds for her board and care until she is assessed and I can bring her home._

However, I had to go on Faith once again, or she would have shipped to slaughter. There was no time to wait and see if we could raise the funds.

So many times horses just respond to the way they are treated.

Let’s close 2023 with another victory, and another life saved!! Please help me help this beautiful YOUNG (7 year old, mare.)

MORE good news, the babies Duke & Tara have been delivered to their new home!

Broken leg update – Heading to Seattle to see the joint specialist on Tuesday. Prayers appreciated for good news and hoping and praying I won’t need surgery.

Chilly Pepper – QUICK UPDATE: IT’S BROKEN – Need to hire full time help. All 4 of the Fabulous 4 Babies are getting adopted!

Our beautiful Zoey has been adopted and is settling into her new home.

The others have been adopted or have adoptions pending. THANK YOU FOR SAVING THEM!

Quick Update on my injury.

The Tibia head is broken/fractured. It showed up on the CT Scan. The scary part is that it is a “high pressure” point, as wild horse folks would say. It is where my prosthetic is held.

I am waiting on an appointment with a specialist to see what the plan will be. For now, it is meds, elevate, NO WEIGHT, crutches and a wheel chair.

I spent 14 hours at the ER at Harborview Medical Center, in Seattle WA the other evening. The waiting room is a bit scary, but once inside they have the most amazing doctors. Thankfully, Harvborview is one of the best facilities in the country. Folks fly in from all over the world to be treated there.

Although on the inside, I might need to scream, cry, wail or whine, I know that if we can joke around and laugh, it will be better in the long run. Sadly this has been “my life”, but I trust fully in the Lord and I know He has me. I don’t always understand the plan, for sure, but it is His plan, so I will trust in him no matter how bad it gets. And yes, even while we were joking about the hard hat, inside I was screaming in pain.

I had to feed this morning, and thankfully the hay had been staged, but it would simply be stupid and irresponsible to think I could continue doing the physical stuff right now.

So I am hoping and praying we get enough donations to hire someone for the next 3 or 4 months. THANK YOU to everyone who has donated. I so appreciate you!!

This isn’t much different than all the other times I have been in the hospital or broken, life goes on, we keep rescuing, but I need a little more help than normal.

YOU DID IT – WE SAVED ALL 4 BABIES! THANK YOU!!

I’m sharing the good news, and reaching out to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

I also need to do a little bit of a personal update. As most of you may know, I have had an insane number of surgeries since the Doc messed up my 1st surgery at the age of 17.

I was warned about a “catastrophic failure”, as my 3rd total knee replacement is over 20 years old. Well, It appears this may have happened.

I lost the fight with a set of stairs, my knee bent way more than it physically was able to, along with a lot of horrible, ripping, popping sounds, and I went down. I laid in the driveway and waited for the ambulance. Luckily, AS ALWAYS, God was watching over me. My son was just about to leave, and he was still there. The pouring rain from the night before was nowhere in sight, and I was not alone in the dark. The pour EMT’s stuck me 13 times (that was his count), and still could not get an iv in. (My veins roll and are really difficult to access, so only IM meds on the way to the hospital.)

The reason I am sharing this is that although my son has taken time away from working to feed, clean and take care of the rescue, there is a really good chance I will need to hire full time help for a few months. Luckily I have great folks living at the NV facility and they rock. However, Travis has a family to support, rent, etc. etc., so this can’t continue for too long.

Right now I am sitting waiting for the Docs to figure out the next step. I will most likely need extensive surgery, (once again), and will have to figure out covering the unexpected expenses of hiring semi-permanent help to take care of the physical aspects of the rescue while I am down. AS ALWAYS, Chilly Pepper continues to “Git ‘er Done”, whether I am on my feet or off.

I have to say this was not exactly how I had planned my holiday season, but I know God always has His plan, and I am trusting Him to help me through.

So I am sharing my latest adventure and asking for Lots of Prayers in this situation. Luckily we can still do what we do, and I am grateful for that.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. I know God put these babies in front of me for a reason. They do not deserve to ship to slaughter. Even though I am calling them babies, 8-9 month olds, do ship to slaughter.

I need to raise at least $3000 for bail, transport and hopefully that should include enough feed for maybe a month?

Hi, I wanted to say THANK YOU for all the love and support.

I do need your help to keep things going here at the rescue.

ASIAB, a TX rescue, – publicly raised funds for Warrior’s vet bill, and never actually sent the funds to Doc. So now I owe roughly $300 to Zimmerman Veterinary in NV.

It takes a special kind of person to fundraise off a horse like Warrior, and then pocket the money.

CASHING IN on WARRIOR’S SUFFERING, and then NOT HELPING is BEYOND WRONG. It’s actually CRIMINAL, not to mention heartbreaking.

Our current vet bill in WA is $2154.97. We have 5 more kittens scheduled for surgery to spay/neuter in 2 weeks. This will cost between $700-$1000?

DAKOTA IS SAD & LONELY. I need to get the balance, or at least a big chunk of the vet bill paid so I can have Doc geld him. 30 days after that, he and Misty can have the companion they both need and deserve. She still misses Warrior.

We need to stock up for winter. Hay and grain are expensive, and I need to know we can easily take care of the 11 down in NV, and the 5 here.

I am getting calls for horses almost daily, However, I need to make sure we can feed the ones we have, before I am able to save any more.

I appreciate ANY & ALL help, as I know times are tough for everyone, and on top of that it is the holiday season.

It’s GIVING TUESDAY, and I’m asking folks for help today, and for donations made to Honor our beautiful Warrior.

He is running free in heaven, and my heart is in a billion teeny, tiny pieces.

I love this photo of Warrior and Misty, as their time together was so very precious for both of them.

Sadly, there is never enough time to grieve, and I still need to raise funds to pay for the hay deliveries in NV and WA. The total will be approximately $2500, although it could be as high as $3000. The WA number is $1500.

Our vet bill is still in the thousands, and we have 5 more kittens to get altered.

3 of the older kittens went to an amazing new home, and Mama Donk and baby were adopted. The 2 mustang mares and the baby have also been adopted.

So things are going well, (not including the loss of Warrior.) But he is pain free and flying high.

I so thank God for the time I spent with him. What a gift he was.

Warrior’s FINAL update.

As I write this, the tears are falling so fast I can barely see the screen. I have that ball in my throat and can barely breathe.

I don’t know how to do this. It hurts too much, but I love him more.

Doc is coming today to set our beautiful boy free from all the pain and suffering he is going through.

I promised him I’d fight until he chose not to fight anymore.

Both vets agree it is not only the right thing to do, but the kindest thing possible for him.

I NEED ABOUT $800 – $1000 dollars to have it done on site, and to get him buried. It would be cheaper to drop him off, have him put down in a field and buried at that spot, but I WILL NOT leave him. He is NOT going through the trauma of being loaded and not know where he is going or what is happening.

He will be loaded one last time in the shoot, (he is there now having his breakfast), will have lots of loves and scratches, have one last “just a little bug bite” poke from a needle and travel with the Angels to Heaven.

I don’t regret one moment I spent with him. We spent hours together with him in the chute, loving on him, brushing him and just hanging out, so he had a lot of good loving. It was his “safe place”. He spent so much time with Misty and knew a lot of love, in his time here at Chilly Pepper.

I spent 6 months, 24/7 with Honey Bandit, and was absolutely prepared to do that with Warrior.

However, as pretty as his face is, the inside is not healing, and he is suffering. He told me very clearly that he is DONE!

It will cost extra as we will have to remove all the fencing to get him out and load his body to be taken to be buried, and then replace the pens. He deserves that, even though I know he won’t be in his body, and will be running free through heaven’s pastures.

We still have not covered the new stallion’s costs, and I desperately need to buy hay in WA and NV. I know I could use the extra money it will cost for Warrior, for hay instead, and take him to landfill, but that is not an option I can do.

Please help me get our precious boy buried and also buy hay and do right by our new guy, Dakota.

Chilly Pepper – QUICK UPDATE – 911 CALL FOR WILD MUSTANG STALLION! Will you help us save his life? Warrior needs your help!

PHONE RANG AGAIN. 911 for Another, Wild Mustang Stallion!

I received an urgent call to step up and keep this young stallion off the slaughter truck! Chily Pepper is the only thing between him and the kill buyer.

PLEASE HELP SAVE HIM!

(I have no photos as of yet.)

As always, we will need funds for bail, transportation, vetting, feed etc.

The goats all are surviving so far. THANK YOU FOR SAVING THEM Their injuries were serious, and they needed shots and meds daily. Thx to the folks in NV.

WARRIOR NEEDS HELP! He is hanging in there so far, and we are going through the clay like crazy. Sadly he is still a long ways from out of the woods, but enjoying his scratches and loves every day. It is clear that there is some brain damage, but as of yet, it is too soon to tell how much, or if he will be ok.

We need funds for more clay, alfalfa pellets, Omolene 300 and Misty would like some too, please!

We are extremely short on funds, and need hay again in WA and NV. As of right now, there are 15 horses in NV, (with most of them being permanent residents.) However, there are several adoptions pending.

Truck broke down again when the kids were being delivered to NV and Idaho. God blessed us with everyone delivered and breakdown in a safe area. Sadly, we still incurred additional towing costs, and now it needs to get back to the shop.

Vet Bill is climbing!! We were able to spay and neuter 6 cats/kittens so far.

Now, we need to do another 5 asap . With shots, food, meds and cat litter, the costs are great. The good news is that by altering these kitties, we are preventing thousands and thousands of new, unwanted cats from being born.

I know y’all get tired of the constant 911’s, but THAT IS WHAT I DO! Chilly Pepper is on the front line, because I get the calls for these crazy emergencies, because that is My Specialty.

Another Equine Rescue “AND MORE!!” situation.

These precious goats were very badly injured last night by a pack of dogs.

Their ONLY chance is YOU, my Chilly Pepper Family. They have been turned over to the rescue as their alternative was suffering and a slow and painful death.

Again, I REACHED OUT IN FAITH and said YES. God puts these souls in front of us and I can’t say NO.

WARRIOR UPDATE

Warrior is struggling with some issues. He looks gorgeous on the outside, but is having some “episodes”. He is not ready to quit yet, but we need help and I’m waiting for Doc to come and assess him again.

I was shocked when I pulled up the old photo. No wonder he is having head aches and pressure so high up. I had forgotten how high the injury actually was.

He needs prayers!

We need to buy more hay again, and to raise enough funds to send a trailer full of kids down to NV. I am already dealing with deep, deep mud, and the rain is just starting.

Starving, Injured Mama and Baby arrived today!

We got our new arrivals today. Faith and her baby Gage arrived this morning.

It must be something in the water, because Faith also has an injury to her face. I guess things run in three’s.

It is clear she was bitten in the face. She stinks to high heaven, her face is infected and the tooth on the bottom punctured all the way through. So she got her antibiotics, tetanus and clay right away.

She is the biggest sweetheart, is not actually wild, but was apparently a “drop off”.

She was not helpful when they were bringing in the herds, as she would go in the opposite direction and take the herd with her.

Warrior is still ooozing some pus, and was not cooperative today in any way. We finally got through what he and I needed to do, but it was definitely not one of his “good days”. We did end on a good note with lots of loving.

Please keep all of them in your prayers.

We did get the matching funds, so we were able to pay for some hay in WA and NV, and get these horses’ bail paid and transported to Chilly Pepper.

Faith obviously will need some serious TLC and good groceries.

Warrior update.

Some of the pictures are graphic. What we are dealing with is beyond horrific. However, this young horse acts like he is all that, never mopes around, and is enjoying hanging out with his friends. It is still a life-threatening injury. You can clearly see the improvement. I apologize if it upsets anyone. Believe me it’s not easy treating him every day. I am just sharing how serious his injuries are.

We are back in WA, and Doc came out to see him. I love our vets, and they are, and have been since day one, on the exact same page about his treatment.

Warrior is healing wonderfully on the outside. He is also still suffering from a great deal of trauma inside. I pulled out the piece of bone shown above a day or two ago.

The funds raised in the gofundme and other donations were amazing, but they are long spent, and it didn’t begin to cover his medical. They basically covered getting him to NV, me paying the folks who ran the rescue in WA while I was in NV, and to get us home safely to WA. We barely touched the vet bills, and he already has another one up here.

The GOOD NEWS is that Doc was pretty ecstatic about the way his head looks,especially considering the way it looked in the beginning. He has been on constant medication, and the stuff he is on now is about $300 a bottle, and we are on the 2nd one already. He is also on another antibiotic, probiotics, good feed etc.

He still cannot eat grain, and we believe it is because of an injury on the side of his jaw, so I soak them 1st, and then he can eat it just fine.

i need to keep him on the antibiotics until I quit getting chunks of bone out of his head.

There is so much infection. Somedays it is so heartbreaking as more and more pus comes from new and various areas. It’s a rollercoaster for sure, and sometimes it just seems like it’s too hard.

Doc said don’t change anything and keep doing exactly what I have been. She also said the fact that pus is NOT coming out of his nostrils is a very good sign as well,

So far he is a miracle, and I am praying he keeps it up. There are times when he doesn’t seem to know where he is or what he is doing. Hopefully the swelling by his brain will go away and he will be ok. He is a long way from out of the woods, but we are Better than 50/50 now. PTL!

We need more hay in NV and WA, and I came home to 2 more horses who were dumped right before winter.

There are so many behind the scenes costs that all rescues face. Brand Inspections, health certificates, and yes, he needed a second one. The utilities, the fuel, the supplies, the costs for rescue are endless and so expensive. Warrior still needs clay every day, shots, special feed and supplements and there are just so many needs.**

THANK YOU for the care packages for Warrior. I used the needles today. Y’all are amazing and I hope we can keep going.

Chilly Pepper – WARRIOR – Update. Doc was here – Still about 50/50 Chance of Surviving…. Prayers Please! He still needs YOUR help!

Update. Yesterday, Doc came out again. And YET AGAIN!

Yesterday, we finally got an x-ray. Doc was also able to yank out some pieces of bone that were dying and coming to the surface. It didn’t hurt Warrior, but it did my heart, just a bit.

The good news is that is skull was not caved in. Some of the bad news is that he has a pocket of pus above his eye, just in front of his brain. Could that be the reason he went all goofy on me? Pressure on the brain can easily cause that.

For those of you that don’t know, I had a situation where he kind of had me pinned in a corner. I was calm, but absolutely aware that any action on his part could have killed me. I screwed up and thought just because we did the same thing every single day since he got here, that something couldn’t change. I was trapped in the corner and dealing with a completely different horse. It was like he wasn’t even there. His eyes were empty and something was definitely wrong.

Thankfully, God was protecting me and I got out of the situation. Never in my life have I seen a horse do exactly that, but it was a lesson well learned. By the end of treatment he was relaxed and we were back in a good space.

So many things could happen here. We don’t know if his bone will heal completely. If his bone dies, so does he. Will the infection spread to his brain? We hope not, but that spot seemed to be putting pressure on his brain. (We are treating that with the clay and the infection is slowly draining, which alleviates the swelling and pressure). As swelling goes down, I keep finding new areas of injury. He has a spot on the side of his face, close to his teeth that is swollen, feels very broken and is extremely painful to the touch. Will all his dead pieces of bone come to the surface, or will they get locked inside, building up infection? Will he spook and hit is head, smashing it open? He is so compromised from his injury, his head will always be so vulnerable. The scenarios are endless, and I’m pretty sure that is why Doc said he still has about a 50/50 chance of making it, maybe a tiny bit more? He said the fact that he is still eating is big. He said he didn’t want to give him less than 50/50 because he has made it so far. “Just keep doing what you are doing”, is what he told me.

So right now it’s just “today”. I take care of him, spend lots of time with him and we go through our routine. He definitely has some healing going on. Will he live? We have absolutely no idea. I will fight with him until he says no. But he is AMAZING, and I am so in love with him. The vet bill is $1400 prior to the ranch call and the x-rays yesterday. All Warrior wants me to do is hang out and scratch him and talk to him. That is when he is the most relaxed. It’s funny, but loose in the chute is where he is the most confident, and that’s where we hang out.
