Can you believe how fast summer is flying by?

 

July kept us busy in all the best ways! From celebrating an adoption and welcoming a new little guy to the barn to sharing pizza with our incredible community members, it’s been another month full of progress, support, and happy moments.

 

Read on to catch up on what’s been happening around AAE this month.

 

TEDDY

 

Teddy was our Horse of the Month in June, and guess what?! He was adopted in July!

 

We’re so excited for this sweet guy after everything he’s been through. Teddy came to AAE in December 2023 with his buddy, Kody. A neighbor of theirs helped rescue them from a neglect situation. He was emaciated when he arrived emaciated, and he had severe diarrhea, overgrown hooves, dental needs, and health other issues that required lots of care and patience.

 

With proper nutrition, medical care, and plenty of TLC, Teddy transformed, not just physically, but emotionally too. He regained his strength, his personality started to shine, and he proved what a kind, steady horse he is.

Teddy has always been a gentle soul. He halters and leads well, trailers quietly, enjoys his routine care, and loves having equine friends by his side. Teddy was adopted about a year ago, then ended up back at AAE through no fault of his own. His adopter separated from her husband, and he came back to AAE.

After rebuilding his confidence and getting another chance, Teddy found the best loving home he deserves.

Congratulations, Teddy and Ken! We couldn’t be happier for this deserving duo. They are already great friends, and Teddy has two young Arabian girls at home, too…Sweeney and Tyler from the Susanville group.

 

NEW MINI

 

This past Friday, we welcomed a new little handsome dude at AAE!

 

This handsome mini-man was found as a stray and transferred to a local animal services partner. When he wasn’t claimed after his stray hold, he was transferred to AAE.

 

He is a sassy and spirited stallion, sweet as pie one minute, and nipping at you the next. Little mister is still figuring things out. Needless to day, he’s young, and he hasn’t learned much about ground manners yet. We won’t be turning our back on this little character.

 

He’ll be on the schedule for castration, soon, and also, dental and hoof care, vaccines, deworming, and a microchip.

 

Stay tuned for updates. We have a feeling this little guy is going to steal some hearts!

 
LADY A UPDATE

 

Lady A’s surgery went well. She’s healing and adjusting, and taking it all in stride. This sweet ol’ mare is so lucky! Together, we’re able to give her the TLC she needed to find comfort and care in her golden years.

 

She’s a really good hugger, and once she heals, she’s going to need a really soft landing and place to call home ’til the end.

 

Thank you to everyone who donated to her surgery fund! Lady A appreciates your kindness and is grateful to have you on her journey to recovery!

Volunteer opportunities to make a difference in the following ways (and more):

·     Special Project Day: Saturday, August 8, 2026, 9:30a to 2:00p at AAE’s Pilot Hill Ranch. Sign-up if you can, and we’ll keep an eye on the forecast. If the heat climbs, we’ll cancel our August date and look forward to seeing you in September. If you can help, please sign up here under “Facility and Special Projects”. ·     Outreach Volunteers: Volunteer at the AAE Outreach Booth at the Tri-County Home & Garden Show in Roseville, August 14-16! There are several open spots: (1) Fri 8/14 9:30-1:30, (2) Sat 8/15 9:30-1:30, (1) Sat 8/15 1:30-5:30, (2) Sun 8/16 1:30-3:30. Can you help complete our team? We also need two volunteers to help with booth set up on Wednesday, August 12. Sign up here under “Outreach” if you’re interested and available, or contact Leah if you’d like more info. Stay tuned, Draft Horse Classic is coming soon!

 

·     Barn Volunteers are ALWAYS needed. Our feed and care shifts are 8:30a-12:30p and 3:00p-6:00p. Afternoon shifts are typically slim. If you’re able to help with horse care, please sign up here. If you haven’t participated in a while, we need you!

 

If you haven’t volunteered before, but you would like to, reply and we’ll provide information about our New Volunteer Orientation and Basic Safety Training or visit our website.

 

·     Store Volunteers are ALWAYS needed, too. Store hours are 12:00p-4:00p, daily. If you like to clean tack, YEP, we still need help catching up with a backlog of donations; even one shift helps!! Process donated tack, talk with customers, or organize inventory, your participation helps raise funds for horses.

 

You can also help with our SIDEWALK SALE on Saturday 8/8 12:00p-4:00p. Earlier hours will be available for prep, too.

SUPPLY NEEDS/WISH LIST!
Fall is right around the corner, and we have some needs, new and old. Rescue is hard, and our volunteers work tirelessly to make sure our horses have the things they need. Horses have a lot of needs, but when we can make tasks easier for volunteers, we try to help them, too. Your assistance with in-kind donations is always helpful!
 

·     Senior Feed: We have a lot of senior horses right now, and we’re going through a lot of senior feed. If you want to do a little something for your favorite senior, help by buying a bag of senior feed. We regularly use Elk Grove Milling Senior Stable Mix with Glucosamine and Chondroitin, Purina Equine Senior, or LMF Senior Low Carb. Purchase a bag from Lees’ Feed and bring it to the store or the barn, or set it up with Lees’ for our next delivery.

 

·     Two Sheds: We are in need of two sheds: one approximately 10′ x 12′ Tuff Shed-like for our saddles and tack for programs (coming soon), and a smaller, shed for our hoof care and farrier tools, equipment, and supplies. Do you have one that you’re not using or would you consider purchasing one for AAE? Send a reply if you’re interested or we can provide more info.

 

·     Solar Lights: As shorter days are drawing near, it would be helpful.
