Lunging Over Ground Rails
Get the motor runnin’! Leading, Lunging, Ground Driving and Riding over ground rails can enhance your equine’s ability to move forward with impulsion, regular rhythm, cadence and appropriate suspension. These types of exercises will help him to navigate all equine activities effortlessly and enhance good equine postural balance. Disengaging the hindquarters is a grave mistake. As an analogy, think of the hind quarters as the “motor” of a boat. When not engaged, the boat’s prow is deep in the water and becomes hard to steer and control. However, when the “motor” is engaged, the front end is lifted and lightened. Then navigation and steering become much easier! The physics is the same with our equine quadrupeds. When they are strong enough to hold good postural balance, with adequate impulsion from the rear that creates suspension, only then can they slow down and hold that correct balance easily. This is how they can properly achieve the slower gaits for English and Western Pleasure classes at a show, and even for pure pleasure and ultimate safety on the trail.
